The Care Act 2015 requires local authorities to provide certain information to residents. Worcestershire County Council has commissioned a service to contribute towards fulfilling its Care Act requirements and the needs of residents with sensory impairment to deliver improved outcomes for health and wellbeing.
Sight Concern Worcestershire have been commissioned to deliver the Sensory Impairment Specialist Information and Advice Service, Action Deafness will provide support with D/deaf information and advice. The service will be branded as Sensory Matters. It will provide an information and advice service to residents with a sensory impairment e.g. D/deaf, hearing impaired, blind, visually impaired, Deafblind or Dual Sensory loss
The Sensory Matters Service offers vital, often critical support which protect residents with sensory impairment’s rights, enables residents to cope with current and avoid future crises, and enables them to move towards stability and independence, improving overall individual and community resilience and wellbeing.
The service helps to develop residents’ resilience through providing locally accessible and integrated services that will facilitate self-help, individual and community wellbeing, digital inclusion, and service user empowerment.

The commissioned service will work closely with the Council’s Sensory Impairment Team in their work towards meeting Care Act requirements. The Council’s team have qualified staff specialised in assessing and meeting the needs of sensory impaired people Countywide.
