Alliance Project Update: Understanding and Strengthening the VCSE Sector in Worcestershire

The Worcestershire VCSE Alliance is undertaking a major research and evaluation project “Understanding and Strengthening the VCSE”, funded by Worcestershire County Council.  The first phase of this project is an intelligence gathering and scoping exercise, and is being led by Peter Rose from Tiller Research Ltd.

This first phase is focussed on collating information on VCSE organisations throughout Worcestershire, identifying geographic reach and the range of work being undertaken.  Preliminary results of this intelligence gathering were presented at the VCSE Assembly in October.  This included an infographic (below) showing VCSE organisations registered and operating in Worcestershire, indicating how long they have been established, their size, and their focus of work.  In addition, Mike Rice from Worcestershire County Council’s GIS team has put together some maps indicating where organisations are registered, and how this relates to the areas of highest deprivation across the county.

The final element of phase 1 will focus on collating information on unincorporated community groups, and on other activities delivered in Worcestershire by VCSE organisations that are not registered locally, such as national charities with a significant presence in the county.

The second phase of this project began in 2024, and we are currently seeking survey responses from as many VCSE organisations in Worcestershire as possible. You can take the survey here: Understanding and Strengthening the VCSE Sector in Worcestershire
